Food Safety Consulting

Food safety is our business — and yours too

Your partner for professional food safety services

Whether you’re running a manufacturing facility or serving the city’s best tacos from a food truck, your first responsibility is to ensure the safety of the food you produce. We minimize your risk with a wide range of food safety services.

Consulting Services

Our food safety consulting services cover everything from writing HACCP Plans and assessing your existing food safety practices for gaps to ensuring regulatory compliance.

GFSI Compliant Programs (FSSC22000, SQF, BRC, GlobalGAP, PrimusGFS)

We recommend and build a program that’s compliant with the right GFSI scheme for your business. Our service includes everything a facility needs to the point of certification:

  • Logs, forms and documentation
  • Team training
  • Onsite and remote pre-audit assessments
  • Mock audits
  • Presence on audit day

HACCP Plans and Food Safety Plans

Your local department of health, FDA and/or USDA will require a documented Food Safety Plan or HACCP Plan. We build a custom document specific to the commodity, plant and process that includes:

  • Hazard analysis
  • Establishment, oversight and management of preventive controls
  • Supply chain program
  • Recall plan
  • Integration within your processes, including training

Have an existing Food Safety Plan? We provide a gap analysis to ensure your plan is current.

Environmental Monitoring Programs

If your company is producing RTE foods, we can build your Environmental Monitoring Program to assess sanitation. Your EMP includes template forms, documents, and procedures that are compliant with regulations.

Cleaning and Sanitation Programs

For programs to be effective, they need to be compliant with regulations and customized to your business. Our cleaning and sanitation program development includes template forms, schedules, and procedures to help companies manage their sanitation programs.

Quality Assurance Support

Quality is a critical component of food safety. We help our clients improve their Quality Management System with support for Quality Control and Quality Assurance. This includes current program review, troubleshooting and gap analysis.

Retail and Wholesale Audits

Buyers may require you to complete an independent audit (2nd party audit). We’ll prepare you for your audit by reviewing your documentation and procedures and be available on audit day to answer any questions.

Professional Coaching

One on one consulting and troubleshooting can be helpful when you need to take a critical look at your food safety practices. We perform root cause analysis, corrective actions and help establish preventative actions. We also coach team members on the importance of their role in assuring food safety.

Regulatory Compliance

Food industry regulations are complex and varied and often depend on the type of food business you’re operating. We identify the rules that apply to your business and put you on the path to compliance

Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)

The FSMA has transformed the nation’s food safety system by shifting the focus from responding to foodborne illness to preventing it. Our consulting services are all designed to advise food facilities on how to comply with the rules of the FSMA. We also offer FSMA-specific training programs including:

Produce Safety Rule (PSR)

Science-based minimum standards for the safe growing, harvesting, packing, and holding of fruits and vegetables grown for human consumption. We work with growers and importers to help them understand the regulatory requirements of the rule and what to expect during an inspection.

Sanitary Transportation Rule

Anyone involved in food transportation (including those who store it during transport) must comply with sanitation rules. We make sure they understand the requirements and are prepared for inspection.

Preventive Controls

Facilities have the flexibility to tailor preventive controls to address hazards that occur in the products they manufacture. We assess your process to ensure that any hazards will be significantly minimized (or prevented) and help ensure that the food is not adulterated. This includes controls for process, food allergens, sanitation and supply-chain.

Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP)

Food imported into the United States must be produced in a manner that meets applicable U.S. safety standards. We work with importers to perform certain risk-based activities to verify that GFSC can act as the “qualified Individual” (as required by the FDA). We write the FSVP SOP, train and deliver a program that tracks all vendor documentation and expiry dates and can support clients with an electronic solution.

Traceability and Recall (Trace backward and forward)

When a client is faced with a recall, GFSC provides support through all stages of the process. This includes but is not limited to: classification of the recall, recall hazard assessments, mock recalls and readiness reviews, traceability, corrective actions and preventive actions, etc.

Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)

Our onsite compliance assessment helps customers understand where they stand with current practices but more importantly helps them understand their opportunities. These assessments cover all aspects outlined in the GMP regulations.

Food Defense/Bio Terrorism/Security

Food Defense protects food from acts of intentional adulteration. GFSC delivers training and outreach, conducts exercises and assesses and reviews food defense plans. These assessments cover all aspects of the intentional adulteration rule.
